Above All,  An Encounter

At Tad Kozh, we believe that watchmaking is about far more than mechanical complications. It is first and foremost a human story, one of gestures handed down and knowledge preserved. This is the spirit in which our Collaboration with GENUS was born: bringing together a Manufacture that has never been afraid to challenge convention and an artisan free to express the full range of his talent.

For the first time in its history, the Genus Manufacture ventures into the world of Grand Feu enamel. Uncharted territory, approached with the same boldness that led it to reinvent the way we read time. From this encounter came « Les Flux du Temps », a creation limited to just 5 pieces, in which enamel does not merely adorn the watch but becomes an integral part of its identity.

The Artisan  :  Matteo  Stauffacher

A Grand Feu enameller and designer based in Lausanne, Matteo Stauffacher trained under Anita Porchet, a leading figure in Swiss art enamelling. For this Collaboration, he was given complete creative freedom: to interpret the GNS2 and the singular philosophy of GENUS through his own artistic language.

Drawing on his personal universe, he imagined a wave motif that resonates naturally with the brand's DNA, whose moving elements trace time in perpetual motion. A sincere dialogue between contemporary watchmaking and ancestral craftsmanship, reflecting what he had always dreamed of: sitting at a table with a watchmaker and daring to create together something that had never been done before.

The  Watch  and  its  Challenges

« Les Flux du Temps » is based on the GNS2, powered by the Manufacture calibre 260Rh-2 designed by master watchmaker Sébastien Billières. True to the GENUS signature, it does away with hands: hours and minutes are indicated by moving elements that travel across the patented display complication, the minutes following the brand's famous figure-eight track.

On this foundation, Grand Feu enamel covers every display. The two half-moons of the dial are crafted in Cloisonné: 12 cm of 24-carat gold wire, just 0.2 mm wide, outline each area of the motif by hand. The enamel powder is then laid in place and fired at over 800 °C. Ten shades of transparent enamel, between eight and ten firings for each half-moon, followed by hand polishing to reveal a mirror finish of striking depth. The hour and minute displays, for their part, are executed in Champlevé.

The challenge was considerable: enamelling moving, articulated parts, an undertaking even Sébastien Billières had never imagined taking on. Yet from Matteo's very first sketch, it was clear the challenge had to be met. In total, more than 100 hours of work were required to create the enamelled components, in an art where every gesture is measured in tenths of a millimetre and leaves no room for correction.
